Best of New England 2014

Nubble Light: Cape Neddick, Maine

Once a year, I look back upon my work to assess the damage. Well, it’s that time of year again. So, how does one select a mere 20 photos out of a catalog of 9000? It’s neither easy nor scientific: I simply try to pick images that evoke strong emotion, like the above photo of Nubble Light in fog.

The New England photos in this article are my subjective picks from 2014. As I look over the list, I notice that lighthouses represent a big percentage of the total. That bias reflects my love of seascapes and the fact that all New England states, except Vermont, share a slice of the Atlantic Ocean.

So, here are my favorites from the last year. I also want to take this opportunity to thank you all for following and supporting my work. I promise to bring you more visual goodies in 2015.

  3. I recently discovered your work and find it totally amazing! I used to do some amateur photography and never came close to the clarity you get in your photos, how do you do it? are they digital? And your night pictures with the stars and the milky way are wondrous. I live in R.I. and have to say your pictures of the B.I. north light are the best I’ve seen. Can’t wait to see what you do in 2015, thanks..

    1. Thank you so much, Beth. Yes, all my photos are taken with digital cameras having high resolution. The night photos also require cameras with sensors that can perform well in very low light, so I’ve been selective of gear for that reason.

  4. Beautiful work , it’s hard to pick a favorite but Jordan Pond is definitely up there. love sharing your work on twitter (of course full credit) Keep up the great work
